Rachel Stewart is our Head Coach. She has coached since 1988 in both Ontario and British Columbia. Not only does she have significant skating qualifications (5th figure, Junior Silver Free Skate, Gold Dances) but also has completed Level 1 & 2 National Coaching Certificates. Further, she has Power Skating certification and St. John Ambulance first aid qualifications. Rachel is a very busy mother of two young boys as well as her coaching and part time employment. Rachel brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy to her coaching. Children tend to be both positive and responsive to her strategies. She is currently working towards her Level 2 Technical certification with Skate Canada.
Yoshie Measures, Freelance Coach, is new to Nelson and has an extensive background in coaching and competitive skating. She has been employed as a coach in both Japan (3 years) and Canada (5 years) and has Level 1 Coach’s Training and Level 2, theory and technical qualifications. Yoshie was a competitive skater in Japan before she started coaching and has her 7th Level Free Skate and the equivalent of Senior Silver Dances. She has coached skaters at the Gold Free Skate and Skating Skill level as well a Novice and Senior Silver Dancers.
We have many Junior Program Assistants who are devoted StarSkaters that love the sport and are excellent models for beginning skaters.
