Skate Canada Test Levels

CanSkate

For each level or stage, skaters are required to competently perform a number of skills in each category.  Upon achievement of all skills in a level, a badge is awarded to each skater.

The names of the STAGE badges are:
Stage 1 - Balance
Stage 2 - Glide Forward
Stage 3 - Glide Backward
Stage 4 - Edges
Stage 5 - Power
Stage 6 - Speed
Stage 7 (optional) - Pre-Preliminary

STARSkate Beginners

In the Nelson Figure Skating Club, skaters interested in figure skating are encouraged to enter the Junior STARSkate group lesson program.  Skaters who have achieved Stage 3 while in CanSkate, and who have shown an interest in further developing their skating skills are moved up on the recommendation of the coaches.  Skaters participate in two group lessons per week and are also encouraged to skate on a private ice session where they can book a private lesson with one of the Club's professional coaches. 

STARSkate Test Program

The test program is split into three disciplines - Free Skate, Skills and Dance.  There are also Competitive Tests and Interpretive tests that skaters can achieve.  The levels in each discipline are as follows:

    Junior Bronze

    Senior Bronze

    Junior Silver

    Senior Silver

    Gold

    Diamond
